Silicone Protection Tape

Silicone Protection Tape

£6.67 / €7.80

Silicone Protection Tape
Used to cover and protect external insulation.
This black silicone tape is NOT effected by UV light and adds a protective layer to external insulation. The special silicone compound will only bond to itself, requiring no messy glue compounds that could be damaging to high temperature insulation.
The tape is applied by over lapping the joint which then forms an impervious barrier and protects the insulation from both the elements and bird attack.

Because this tape is manufactured from a silicone compound, it can come into contact with hot surfaces like the solar collector.

Width 38.1mm (1½")
Length 3.048Mtrs (10Ft)
Silicone Tape withstands up to 260'C
Remains flexible to -50'C
Can stretch to over 300% (conforms to irregular shapes)
No adhesive (is self bonding)

Certification1

Certification

Certification of solar collectors.
Like most things in life there are plenty of sales people and companies trying to make a quick buck and sell you a cheap product for lots of money, "trust me" "trusted advice" always seem to be common phrases.

Europe / The UK Government set certain standards for solar collectors in order to protect people and ensure they get value for money.
The main test standard for a solar collector is EN12975-1, this test standard means that the solar collectors are tested in a live situation by an approved test laboratory (TUV, SPF, Fraunhofer & many more) they pass or fail and the results are published.

Test
These tests look at: The collector efficiency, capacity of collector, internal pressure test, high temperature pressure test, exposure test, external thermal shock, internal thermal shock, rain penetration, freeze resistance, mechanical load and stagnation.

However, these tests will only confirm that the collector meets a minimum efficiency standard, but to compare the performance of collectors you need to dig a little deeper - but it is not difficult.
ASK- if the solar collector you intend to buy doesn't have the basic approval to EN12975 there is a reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Under test is a common way to fool people into believing it is OK, if that's the case wait until it's approved.
KeyMark

Solar KeyMark and BRE Global

Solar KeyMark - International standard
BRE Global - UK version

These additional but optional tests/controls, show that the product you are buying is the same as the product which went through the EN12975-1 approval test process.
This test looks firstly at the solar collector and then at the manufacturing facility. In order for the manufacturing facility to be approved it must show to an inspector that it has the correct manufacturing and business quality assurance processes and procedures to make the same products to the same standard time after time. This control is remade on an annual basis to ensure the same standards are maintained.
