Silicone Protection Tape

Silicone Protection Tape
Used to cover and protect external insulation.
This black silicone tape is NOT effected by UV light and adds a protective layer to external insulation. The special silicone compound will only bond to itself, requiring no messy glue compounds that could be damaging to high temperature insulation.
The tape is applied by over lapping the joint which then forms an impervious barrier and protects the insulation from both the elements and bird attack.

Because this tape is manufactured from a silicone compound, it can come into contact with hot surfaces like the solar collector.

Not all collectors are the same

It would not be a surprise to anyone that not all vacuum tube collectors are the same.
There are many different varieties and sizes including Ø47mm tubes, Ø58mm tube & Ø70mm tubes.
Both Ø47mm, Ø58mm tend to be double walled tubes which consist of a tube inside an outer tube and the space between is a vacuum to protect the heat once captured.
Ø70mm tubes tend to be single walled tubes where the entire tube is in a vacuum.

Taking a closer look at Ø47mm verses Ø58mm, the important thing to note is the absorber area, this is the absorbing area open to collect the suns energy.
On average per tube a Ø58mm X 1800mm tube has more than 50% absorbing area than the Ø47mm X 1500mm tube.
In effect this means that if you were looking to install a 30 tube Ø47mm you would only need to install a 20 tube Ø58mm tube to gain the same output.

There are also different tube coatings; the AA tube has an absorber coating with a highly reflective layer, whilst the 3UP AIN/AIN-SS/CU tube has an additional copper layer which captures infrared energy and gives an increased output.

You should also consider the construction and material of the collector. SunnPro Sp series are made from lightweight aluminium frames and manifolds, whilst others can be made from thin stainless steel.

Don't forget to give some consideration to the aesthetics of the collector, as these are normally positioned in an open position for all to see!
